Elections
One of the critical parts of the annual general meeting are the elections of the new board and executive. Current members and/or new members can self-nominate or nominate someone to our Board of Directors. Click here to view our current Board members and current positions. Nominees must attend the AGM or send a proxy to attend the AGM on their behalf. A proxy is someone acting on their behalf in a situation where they are unable to attend.
Only current members are eligible to vote during the elections. Click here to check your membership status or register to be a member of HBMBA.
In accordance with HBMBA By Laws, members or new members may submit a one-page PowerPoint slide at least seven (7) days prior to the AGM to be included as part of their nomination form.
Please fill in the nomination form prior to the AGM so that we can go through out elections efficiently during the meeting. However, nominations will also be accepted during the meeting.
Board of Directors
In accordance with our existing by-laws, Board positions can be filled for a one or two year term. Existing Board members can ask to stand in the current position but are still required to proceed with a vote if another member wishes to run in that position. Members can also self-nominate or nominate another member to run against the standing member in which case a vote will take place at the AGM. If a vote is required, each nominee will be given an opportunity to speak prior to a vote. Asides from a maximum of a two year term, there are no limits to the number of times a member can hold the position.
Vacancies
For our upcoming term, the following positions will be vacant for members to self-nominate or nominate someone.
- Director of Memberships
- Director of Events
- Director of Trails: Christie Lake
- Director of Trails: Hyde Tract

Q&A
Q. I’m interested in a board position but I’m not sure what the expectations are?
A. The HBMBA Board & Executive members are the foundations of our advocacy efforts and our work in the community. Each role is different but it’s expected that the member holding the position will carry out the responsibilities associated with that role. Meetings are held at least once per month or more depending on projects and activities.
Q. Are there any other opportunities available to contribute, get involved, or join meetings?
A. Absolutely! Being a volunteer organization, we rely entirely on volunteers to get things done. You can join the trail crew, help out with events, and you can even become a member at large and help our board members tackle big problems. This is a great way to learn more about the organization and test the waters of becoming a board member.
