SUMMARY:HBMBA Social Ride July 17th 2022
DESCRIPTION:Join the Hamilton Burlington Mountain Biking Association for a social mountain bike ride on Sunday July 17th 2022. \nThis ride is only available to current HBMBA members 18 years and older and will be a relaxed no-drop social ride. The ride will be approximately 2 hours and is weather dependent. \nWho: HBMBA Members 18+\nWhere: Christie Lake\nWhen: July 17th at 9:30am – the ride will start no later than 9:40am\nWhere: Mountain bike parking lot (West-most parking lot – follow mountain bike trail signs). We will meet at the trailhead sign at the picnic tables. \nPlease make sure that your bike is in good working order before arriving for the ride. Make sure you’ve got some water and snacks in case you get hungry along the way. Helmets are mandatory. \nWhat is a social ride? A social ride is a relaxed ride and not a race. We’ll make a number of stops to catch our breath and chit chat along the way. As mentioned above\, this is a no-drop ride which means everyone needs to work together to make sure that the person behind you knows where to go if there is a fork in the road or a trail crossing. We’ll go over all of this before the ride too. \nIn the event that we need to cancel or postpone due to weather\, etc. all participants will receive an email as soon as possible prior to the ride. We recommend checking your email before heading out. \nIf you have any questions\, please contact us at hello@hbmba.ca \nClick here to RSVP.

SUMMARY:HBMBA AGM 2022
DESCRIPTION:The Hamilton Burlington Mountain Biking Association executive would like to invite all members and non-members to join us at our annual general meeting. \nDue to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic\, our AGM will once again be held virtually with Zoom. While we will miss meeting and greeting everyone in person\, we are thankful that we have the option to host our AGM virtually. \nWelcome & Agenda\n\nReview and recap of 2021\n\nIncludes updates on Christie Lake\, Waterdown\, the Grom Squad\, Hyde Tract\, and more\n\n\nHBMBA turns 5!\nFinancial report\nWhat lies ahead for 2022\nElections\nQ&A\n\n\nClick Here to register/get your tickets\n\nElections\nOne of the critical parts of the annual general meeting are the elections of the new board and executive. Current members and/or new members can self-nominate or nominate someone to our Board of Directors. Click here to view our current Board members and current positions. Nominees must attend the AGM or send a proxy to attend the AGM on their behalf. A proxy is someone acting on their behalf in a situation where they are unable to attend. \nOnly current members are eligible to vote during the elections. Click here to check your membership status or register to be a member of HBMBA. \nIn accordance with HBMBA By Laws\, members or new members may submit a one-page PowerPoint slide at least seven (7) days prior to the AGM to be included as part of their nomination form. \nPlease fill in the nomination form prior to the AGM so that we can go through out elections efficiently during the meeting. However\, nominations will also be accepted during the meeting. \nBoard of Directors\nIn accordance with our existing by-laws\, Board positions can be filled for a one or two year term. Existing Board members can ask to stand in the current position but are still required to proceed with a vote if another member wishes to run in that position. Members can also self-nominate or nominate another member to run against the standing member in which case a vote will take place at the AGM. If a vote is required\, each nominee will be given an opportunity to speak prior to a vote. Asides from a maximum of a two year term\, there are no limits to the number of times a member can hold the position. \nVacancies\nFor our upcoming term\, the following positions will be vacant for members to self-nominate or nominate someone. \n\nDirector of Memberships\nDirector of Events\nDirector of Trails: Christie Lake\nDirector of Trails: Hyde Tract\n\n\nClick here to fill in the nomination form for a board position\n\nExecutive\nExecutive positions are elected differently as a member must have served as a board member for at least one year prior to being elected to the Executive. Similarly to Board positions\, the Executive positions are held for one or two year terms with a maximum of up to five (5) years held consecutively. \nVacancies\n\nPresident\nVice-President\nTreasurer\nManager of Communications\nSecretary\n\n\nClick Here to register/get your tickets\n\nQ&A\nQ. I’m interested in a board position but I’m not sure what the expectations are?\nA. The HBMBA Board & Executive members are the foundations of our advocacy efforts and our work in the community. Each role is different but it’s expected that the member holding the position will carry out the responsibilities associated with that role. Meetings are held at least once per month or more depending on projects and activities. \nQ. Are there any other opportunities available to contribute\, get involved\, or join meetings?\nA. Absolutely! Being a volunteer organization\, we rely entirely on volunteers to get things done. You can join the trail crew\, help out with events\, and you can even become a member at large and help our board members tackle big problems. This is a great way to learn more about the organization and test the waters of becoming a board member. \nFor any questions about the AGM\, our by-laws\, elections\, or general inquiries\, please email hello@hbmba.ca

SUMMARY:Mountain Bike To School
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Bike Month with HBMBA and StokedMTB! \n \nDundas is home to an awesome trail network\, which many of us enjoy on a regular basis. For some lucky students these trails also form a link between home and school offering a nearly car-free route to walk or bike to school. \nSeptember is Bike Month in the GTHA\, and to celebrate\, we want to help students feel more comfortable riding the Dundas double track trails by teaching some basics of trail riding and leading families along the route that connects Dundana\, Sir William Osler\, St. Bernadette\, and Dundas Valley Secondary School. \nJoin us at 9 am in Little John Park\, just off the Rail Trail. After some bike check basics with StokedMTB instructor Mel\, we will ride together along the Rail Trail\, stopping at Sanctuary Park where Mel will lead us through some mountain biking basics that will help everyone feel more confident as we then ride along Spring Creek Trail to Couldrey Park. \nParticipants will then have the option to depart from there or ride back to Little John Park with our ride leaders. \nPlease register at: https://zone4.ca/register.asp?id=24422

SUMMARY:Global Fat Bike Day
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an Open House event to celebrate our newest trail network\, the Hyde Tract. We’ll have guided tours of the property or you can explore on your own. We’ll top things off with seasonal refreshments\, buckets of high-fives and loads of camaraderie. Please register for this free event so we know how many treats to bring. \nWhat is GFBD?\nSince 2011\, the first Saturday of December has been declared Global Fat Bike Day\, a day when fat-bike enthusiasts around the world ride their bikes in global revelry. For us however\, Global Fat Bike Day will be on the first Sunday this year.  \nDo I have to ride a fat bike?\nNope! All mountain bikes are welcome. We don’t discriminate against wheel sizes. We’re cool like that. It’s the spirit of fatbiking and our ever-changing seasons that we’re celebrating. \nWho’s going?\nEverybody! This event is an open house so bring your fatbiking spouse\, your fatbiking sibling\, your fatbiking neighbour\, your fatbiking friends. We’ll have guided rides to tour you through the property or you can explore on your own.  We’ll have some hot drinks\, yummy snacks and loads of witty banter. \nDo I need to register?\nYes!  There is no cost to the event but your registration will help us to know how much refreshments we need to bring. Click here to register. \nWhere?\nThe Hyde Tract is located on Safari Road\, 400m east of Kirkwall Road in Flamborough. Don’t worry\, we will have signs up!
