Route Options

Big Ass Night Ride – The classic and full night ride. This ride is suitable for experienced mountain bikers. The route will take us through the Dundas Valley on a moderate pace. There are hills. Approx 2 hours

New! Half-Ass Night Ride – This ride is a shorter route and is suitable for less experienced riders and younger riders. Approx. 1 hour

Both groups will start the ride together and split at one of our scheduled stops.

Additional Details

Proper trail lights and helmets are mandatory. You should also have a working mountain bike or equivalent (aka. Fat Bike, Cross bike). Please make sure that your bike is in good working order before the event. This is a relaxed group ride – not a race. Thus, we will be riding at a moderate pace. That said, there are some hills to climb, so some fitness is required. There will be several stops along the route to gather everyone and see all the lights together.

There is no rain date. In the event of rain or conditions unfavourable for riding, we will be holding a costume party. No refunds will be issued. Please see our F.A.Q. at the bottom for more information.

Please contact us at events@hbmba.ca with any questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What type of lights do I need?
A: Any light that will illuminate the trail is recommended. Road lights are not suitable.

Q: Can I bring my road bike? What type of bike do I need?
A: Road bikes are not suitable for this ride. A suitable mountain bike or equivalent, i.e. fat bike, cross bike, plus, etc. is recommended.

Q. What if my bike breaks during the ride?
A. We have certified mechanics on the ride who may be able to assist if your bike breaks during the ride. One of our ride leaders will coordinate with an event coordinator for a pickup if your bike cannot be repaired.

Q. What if I get lost?
A. Hopefully you won’t as our ride leaders will be guiding you along the route. If you come to a fork in the trail, stay put, one of our ride leaders or our sweep will pick you up.

Q. What if I want to leave the group ride?
A. Please talk to one of our ride leaders before leaving the group. If you suddenly leave on your own or with a friend, you may unintentionally steer riders behind you.

Q. What if it rains?
A. We unfortunately will cancel the ride. We firmly believe in the safety of all riders – wet conditions can make trails unfriendly at night. In addition, riding on trails after rain can cause damage and it is our goal to protect the trails we love to ride. In the event that the ride is cancelled, we will be holding a party at the same location. Please wear your costume as we will still be handing out prizes.

Q. Are you able to refund my ticket if I can no longer attend?
A. Unfortunately no, as this is a fundraiser. There are many costs associated with running an event this size including but not limited to insurance, permits, and swag. You are welcome to pass your ticket along to a friend or someone else if you are unable to attend. Please get in touch with us if you have any questions or concerns before registering.

Q. Do I need to have a big ass?
A. All asses are welcome. In fact, the more the merrier! (Fun fact: The Big Ass Night Ride got it’s name many years ago when we wanted to see how many people were continuing the mountain bike season with lights).
